Johannes Rasmussen says:

Making pipes is part of my DNA. When other children played with Lego I made my first pipe at the age of 8. Still, it was not until 2016 I decided that I wanted to make pipes professionally.

I am the grandson of two of the world’s most famous pipe makers: Poul Rasmussen and Anne Julie. Poul is a legend and has influenced the industry and a lot of the most prominent pipe makers in it. Among those, his wife Anne Julie who still today is the closest you get to royalty in the pipe world.

There are no schools for pipe making, but my grandmother knew exactly what to do when I wanted to learn more. One of Anne Julie’s earlier students, Tom Eltang, is today one of the leading pipe makers – not only in Denmark – but in the entire world. I gave him a call and I have been working with him since 2016. He has taught me a lot about craftmanship and classic pipes but he has also taught me to find my own expression.

The cool thing about Tom Eltang, is that he allows his pupils to make pipes that looks exactly like his. And the cool thing about his pupils is that they respect the master enough to make their own designs. When you first see this blasted cutty, you will say – what a pretty little Eltang, but when you study the shape it makes cense that the pipe is a Suhr, if this was Toms pipe, it would be longer and more bent. Enough about our design thoughts. Lets welcome this medium size semi deep blasted cutty, with a little Eltang “belly” on the back of the bowl (Tom knows where the pipe gets hot and makes the wall thicker there, and now also Johannes knows) Do an investment today, in years to come these pipes will only rise in price.
